Wi-Fi QR code
A Wi-Fi code saves guests from reading a password off the fridge. Camera apps on current iPhone and Android can join the network from the standard WIFI: payload: network name, password, WPA/WEP or no password, and whether the network is hidden.
Logo overlay (optional)
From this device. Embeds will not include it. Error correction switches to H.
Enter the network name (SSID).
Enter the SSID exactly as the router broadcasts it, including capitals and spaces. Choose WPA for WPA2 and WPA3 personal networks; that is what most home and café routers expect in a QR. Use “no password” only for an open network. Hidden networks need the hidden box checked or the phone will not look for the SSID.
Special characters in the name or password are escaped so the payload stays valid. Test with your own phone before you print a stack of table cards. The password is encoded in the graphic; anyone who can see the code can join, so treat a printed Wi-Fi QR like a written password.
Questions
- Is WPA the right setting for WPA2 and WPA3?
- Yes. The QR format uses T:WPA for WPA, WPA2, and WPA3 personal. WEP is only for older hardware. Choose no password for an open network.
- Why will my phone not join?
- Check the SSID spelling, the password, and whether the network is hidden. Some older cameras only show the payload as text; open it with the system camera or a Wi-Fi QR reader.
- Is the password in the embed snippet?
- Yes if you copy the embed. The password is also inside the QR graphic. Do not post that snippet publicly if the network is private.
