SMS QR code
An SMS code opens the messaging app to a number you choose, with an optional first line already written. That is handy for a shortcode-style keyword, an RSVP, a “text this desk for the Wi-Fi,” or a field-team check-in.
Logo overlay (optional)
From this device. Embeds will not include it. Error correction switches to H.
Enter a phone number.
QR Board uses the sms: URI with a body query parameter, which current iOS and Android cameras pass to Messages. Keep the draft short so it survives the hand-off and so the code stays sparse enough to scan from a poster.
This does not send a text by itself. The person still taps send. Carrier rates still apply. If you need a WhatsApp thread instead, switch to that type; the phone field can stay.
Questions
- Why did the body not appear?
- A few third-party scanners ignore the body parameter. Try the built-in camera. Keep the message free of exotic encoding if you can.
- Can I target a short code?
- Yes if the device and carrier allow it. Enter the short code as the number. Test on the phones your audience actually uses.
- Is this the same as WhatsApp?
- No. SMS uses the device’s texting app. WhatsApp opens a wa.me link. Pick the network your audience already has.
